Course Description: Driver Education is a one-semester course worth one-half credit. It consists of two phases: classroom and behind the wheel. The information taught in this class will teach the students responsible and safe driving as well as decision-making skills.
Goals:
- To develop an understanding of the highway transportation system and the driving task.
- To develop an understanding of the signs, signals and road markings and how they help traffic flow.
- To learn how to analyze traffic situations, predict outcomes, and make wise decisions for executing safe actions.
- To develop and understanding of how to perform basic car maneuvers, negotiate various intersections, and interact with other roadway users.
- To learn how to drive safely in various environments and conditions (weather, vehicle malfunctions, etc.)
- To learn that their physical and emotional conditions affect how safely they drive. They will know how alcohol and other drugs affect a person's ability to operate a vehicle.
